On May 5, 2017 Ben Murphy, President and Chief Distiller, Murphy’s Law Distillery, Elmira, Ontario received notice from the LCBO (Liquor License Board of Ontario) that Moondance, Ontario’s first premium moonshine will be available through the Distillery Direct Program, an LCBO program designed to stimulate and satisfy the growing interest in craft distilled products in Ontario.
“We needed a product to further showcase our skills and the opportunity that the ‘Grain-to-Glass’ initiative offered in this category was something we couldn’t ignore.” He added: “This double-distilled, triple charcoal filtered pre-bourbon distillate elevates “Shine” to “Premium” in a marketplace where some very good craft spirits are being introduced.”
Brand creator and product developer, Terry Gibson added: “I have been refining this recipe for 20 years, but it took Ben’s skill and intuition to finish the direction that has been in my heritage for 200 years.”
Moondance will be available at LCBO stores just in time for summer 2017. “If current product response mirrors the sales success experienced to date at the distillery, Moondance is expected to be in 100+ stores by the end of our next fiscal quarter.” Gibson expects sales to grow significantly through experiential/co-branded promotions, licensee use and signature mixologist creations.

This double distilled, triple charcoal filtered clear spirit displays the character and complexity of fine pre-bourbon distillates. Hand-crafted in Elmira, Ontario using locally grown ingredients, this “Grain to Glass” offering elevates “Shine” to Premium Grade.
Light vanilla on the nose with hints of toasted banana and fresh baked corn bread on the palate – a smooth soft and almost peppery finish….….touches a range of flavours not found in your regular spirit choice! Opens more with a little ice and water.
Its appearance is clear and colourless. Its aroma is deep but light vanilla, with hints of toasted banana and corn meal bread. Its taste starts semi-sweet with a subtle toasted grain middle and medium to long slightly peppery finish.
